- Mao Zedong passed away on this date in 1976. Chairman Mao led the Revolution in China that put the Communist Party in power.
- On September 9th, 1850, California became the 31st state admitted to the United States. On September 12th, the area known as modern day Los Angeles suffered its first traffic jam, causing an excess of methane to be released from the horses standing around. This is how global warming started, according to Al Gore.
- The Boston Red Sox played the Cleveland Indians in front of only 1,695 fans on September 9th, 1991. This in spite of the Charlie Sheen Bobbleheads being given away that night.
- Colonel Sanders was born on September 9th, 1890. After receiving his first social security check, he realized that this would not be enough to support him in retirement. All he did in his 60′s was form Kentucky Fried Chicken, one of the largest companies in the world. No doubt his success was due to being a former community organizer, like President Obama.
- Sandy Koufax threw a perfect game on this date in 1965
- The First Civil Rights Bill passed since Reconstruction was signed by DWIGHT EISENHOWER on September 9th, 1957. What party was he with? Oh, that’s right…he was a Republican!
- “Joey” debuted on NBC in 2004. On a related note, Matt LeBlanc has not been seen in public since 2006
- Jimmy “the Greek,” famous oddsmaker and all-around bigot was born on this day in 1923
- Walter Payton broke Jim Brown’s combined yardage record of 15,517 yards on September 9th, 1984.
- Abraham Lincoln received his license to practice law on this date in 1836.
