Border Truth, Not Bordering On Truth
On May 10th, President Obama declared our southern border with Mexico was safer than it has ever been. I have seen more security at The GAP. Since we have been graced with the great protector, illegal immigration has been stopped dead in it’s tracks and all the fear from the Mexican drug lords is a thing of the past.
No I have not been smoking anything, that is just what our President and his dutiful press minions would have you believe.
While in El Paso, Texas President Obama stated:
We have strengthened border security beyond what many believed was possible. The Border Patrol has 20,000 agents – more than twice as many as there were in 2004
While technically that is true, it only borders on being true. President Bush, for all his faults with respect to immigration, started increasing the Border Patrol as dramatically as he could from 2001 on. In 2001, the Border Patrol was only able to be increased annually by 500 agents. Congress amended that number, after 2001, to allow an annual increase of 2000 border personnel. The Border Patrol was to be increased to a total number of 20,119 (also called No Juan Left Behind Act, I think) which happened by the end of fiscal year 2009, the fiscal year that started Oct 1, 2008 being President Bush’s last budget.
After taking credit for another issue Bush initiated (see the Osama issue) Obama went on to ridicule the Republicans saying:
“You know, they said we needed to triple the border patrol. Well, now they’re going to say we need to quadruple the border patrol,” said the president. ”Or they’ll want a higher fence. Maybe they’ll need a moat. Maybe they’ll want alligators in the moat. They’ll never be satisfied.”
I was a nice quote to get a chuckle from the audience. Something along the lines Alfred E. Newman might say.
If Obama actually did create a moat and put alligators in it, then at least he would have done something to stop illegal aliens from crossing the southern border. The fence Obama is so sure is nearly done has only 36.3 miles of the proposed 700 miles completed. I would suggest Obama not concentrate on making the fence taller, but work on getting it finished.
Remember, this is the same President who forbids the border patrol from actually apprehending illegal aliens. This is the same President who is partnering with Mexico and suing Arizona for their Immigration Law, all while insisting America is safer than it ever has been from alien criminals. Never question the great “O” and look behind the curtain or you will see US civilians and law enforcers are still getting shot to death in Arizona by Mexican drug gangs. Just wait till Obama discusses amnesty.
The President has become quite adept at taking credit when it is not completely his to take and is the first to blame others for his actions. Barack should remember one of Dan Quayle’s famous quotes:
A mind (memory) is a terrible thing to lose.
